For the non-Chinese speakers on the forum, MeiMei's article talks about a rumor that today's starlets must now take money out of their own pockets and inject that investment into their record labels before they will have a chance of getting promoted.
It's due to the fact that the profit margins for albums, concerts, and movies are no longer what they were before. With competition increasing and the size of the pie shrinking, these companies can no longer justify spending lavish sums of money to promote these young artists with limited appeal.
But here's the troubling thing - the only ones who have the requisite sums of money to invest into themselves are those who have rich family backgrounds to begin with. So the article talks about how a famous jewelry merchant and another rich landlord paid upfront to have their daughters promoted.
If singers and actors are supposed to reflect life for us to see, to sing out life's ups and downs, happiness and sorrows -- what can these rich kids offer to us, no matter how much money their parents pour into the companies' coffers?
We love Anita so much because she had the ability to sing out the entire world's and an entire era's emotions, and that's in turn because she went through so much. 梅 姐 唱 出 了 人 世 間 的 甜 酸 苦 辣.
Kids who have never struggled through anything, who have had everything handed to them, will just stand on the stage, open up their mouths, and bllurt out empty, shallow tunes.
FY,
Thanks for translating.
Its extremely sad already looking at today's singers as alot them can't sing. I can't imagine what the music industry in HK will look like in 3-5 yrs time. We probably will have a bunch of not v. good looking singers that don't sing well at the same time.
I watched Hacken Lee singing Anita's "heart debt" before, but he lacks Anita's emotion.
