Re: "Impossible to meet Anita again" by Law Kwan Cho
After such a long break, I hope there are still viewers coming here to read my translations.
Passages below have been taken from Law Kwan Cho 's book "Impossible to meet Anita again", page 43 of the first edition. Again, I am just translating for the benefit of fans who cannot read Chinese. Those who are interested and can read Chinese should definitely buy the book, which is already in its 5th edition.
Besides signing a contract with Anita, Capital Artists also signed contracts with Lam-Li, Woo-Wai-Hong, and Cheung-Hing-Lung (They formed the group "Little-Tigers" and their songs can be found in Anita's first album "Heart Debt"). They all worked together a lot. Lam-Li introduced me to his aunt Kwok-Hung to follow her for singing. Teacher Kwok often held teacher-student concerts. I invited Anita to come with me to attend (those concerts). She invited me to watch her performances. That was how we started hanging around together.
One night, I didn't have any notices (ie no work for the evening), and was comfortably staying at home in Kwun Tong. Suddenly I got a call from Lam-Li who said: "Sorry, we are at the TVB cafeteria, and did not bring enough money......"
Turned out they (Anita and the Little-Tigers) just finished singing in "Enjoy Yourself Tonight" ( a very popular variety show), and went to the cafeteria to eat sandwiches. When it was time to pay the bill, they emptied their wallets and only got $10 or so. Not enough to pay the bill and came to me, the person who lived the closest, for help.
I immediately 'flew' over to Broadcast Drive by Taxi, and paid the bill for them. Thinking: "Am I just going to 'fly' back to Kwun Tong?" Might as well treated everyone at a Chinese restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui to eat a full meal. After eating, we asked Anita and found out she lived on Patterson Street. Then I emptied my wallet to let her take a taxi home.
She said: "You are so nice. Treating us for dinner and giving me money to get a ride home."
I said: "You are a girl. Living in Hong Kong (which is the main island, across the harbour from where they were working and having dinner), so far and is so late in the night. Cannot have you walk home alone across the harbour?"
Ever since that time, this bunch of youngsters started the days of emptying their wallets to go out.
