This vet that was telling me about the horses being underweight also gave them a vaccination. The next day my younger horse (14 year old mare) was laying in the mud, head down, and flailing. Paniced we called the vet back out and it took him nearly 5 hours to get there. By then the mare was on her feet again but the injection site was a little swollen. The vet immediately said that it was not the vaccination and left. We can't think of anything else that would have caused her to do this because she has never shown any signs of ill health. Does anyone have any idea what happened? What he may have given her?

Do you know what your vet gave her at all?
She may have had an allergic reaction? Or depending on the drug, he may have inserted the needle into the wrong area [muscle/vein].
Vets can be wonderful, but they are also not unfalable.

I hope she is doing better now.
