Here's something a little tongue in cheek, but interesting--since you mentioned the grave stone. There is a rose laying on the headstone. The rose is then "on crypt" (Crypton) LOL --Joe |

No doubt, somethings do appear differently when brought to the attention by another source and or another name. I tend to bury the thoughts of what I alone have witnessed on a stone, an engraved name which surely could have symbolized the begining of more than one great riddle that may not ever become treasured if it was not waiting for you.

If you advance each letter of Knutsen by the numerical equivalents above contained in the date you can arrive at "Gap Hill" ergo...Tennessee Pass. The military flag patches in the book match those on the monument. It's not a big deal clue but just a teaser or possibly a confirmation. Look at the book picture showing tyhe skiers, metal disks with faces, etc...Vail, Metollious, the string on the kite, etc, all towns around that pass in Colorado. Best regards, Rob |

"If you advance each letter of Knutsen by the numerical equivalents above contained in the date you can arrive at "Gap Hill" ergo...Tennessee Pass" Funny, I did exactly that, many different times, way back in the day - let me go get my 20 year old notes... KNUTSEN 6111980 TFTUDVK (originals) HDRSLFK (original notes, errors?) Nope, don't see it. In fact, if it's an anagram that's operated upon, then at least 1 letter in the original must remain the same ('0' shift) - every letter in GAPHILL is different from EKNUST. Perhaps you can illustrate exactly what substitution/shuffle(anagram)/keying you're using? |

I misspoke. I subtracted the alphabetical numerical equivalent of each letter of "JUNE" from the corresponding letter above, producing ASGP. subtracted 11 from "S" getting "H,19 from "E" getting "L" and subtracting 80 from "N" (three times through the alphabet) and got an "L". I did this because the spacing on the tombstone letters is slightly off. I anagrammed this as GAP HLLS. I admit it is lame. The real clue is the date though, it is on the monument in the Pass. It is about the unit that parachuted into Norway (as I recall) hence the name "Knutsen" and "father's grave". Those illustrated patches in the book are of that military unit so honored by the memorial and dedicated on June 11, 1980. Capt. Nemo didn't think much of that suggested solution either! You now know as much as I do about the contest and its aftermath. Good luck and remember "Occam's Razor". Robert |
