Ahoy, stupid i know. I have been visiting the VA hospital here in Spokane, Wa. and came across some old (ancient) news of the HAWK. So i started gearing up my pc to see if anyone is still above ground with me.
I served aboard her from July 1962 through July 1966. I was Capt's driver for both Capt. Butts and Capt. Carmody. I worked the flight deck, cats 4 and 3.
I watched the recent PBS program on carriers and i must say, i did notice some changes. Not just the female sailors but the equipment as well. If there are any Vietnam era HAWK salors out there, mail me if you like.
Hello, my father served onboard the KittyHawk in 62 or 63 i'm not quite sure of the exact date as mother doesn't talk about it much anymore. but, my father passed away in may of 2000. And i really don't have much of him. i was wondering if perhaps you may have knew him? i was told he was a cook onboard the KittyHawk. His name was Kenneth E. Myers but he was called hillbilly. Anything you may remember about my dad i'd love to hear. If you have any photos anything? i'd really appreciate anything you might be able to tell me. If anyone else knows anything please e-mail me Thank You.
Hello Laura;
I'm back. I have three cruise books. I will go thru them and see what I can find about you father. Since I was in V-2 division, which is the flight deck launching aircraft and your father was below decks the chances of us getting to know each other would be really slim. So if he was in the division photos then I should be able to pull it up and get a copy to you. No promises but if I find some thing, you'll get it.
So sorry for the long delay.
Bob Brannon.
