Monsoon Season
Fayleane Doyle from Augathella sent me an old poem she had written called Monsoon Season and asked me to give her a hand with tidying it up for metre and rhyme and we came up with the following. The old Monsoon season was very much a part of life but sadly we don't see the benefits so much these days. Well done Fayleane. MONSOON SEASON The clouds roll in with sudden force, and sky turns grey to run its course, while lightning flashes ‘cross the sky so fast it beats the naked eye. The thunder rumbles strong and loud; a drop falls from a darkened cloud. One single spit of welcome rain; the start to easing this drought’s pain. The rain begins its downward fall and strikes against the shed’s tin wall. It pelts across the thirsty land that willingly accepts a hand. The dust now settles far and wide to give the country back its pride and fills the dams and all the creeks; it looks like it’s set in for weeks. The days drag on, they’re cold and wet just like the fam’ly’s furry pet. I’ts hopeless getting things to dry, which leaves the washing piling high. The black soil road now turns to mud, we’re bound to get another flood. The creeks are rising to their peaks and our tin roof has many leaks. The traffic’s cut from town to town, we’re all flood bound til it goes down. Across the bridges water roars; one can’t drive through it’s past the doors. The rain has gone though water lies spread o’er the land beneath blue skies. The sun displays its welcome light and stars they fill the sky at night. The Monsoon season comes and goes and though it brings its many woes to us bush folk out on the land it really is a thing quite grand. Fayleane Doyle |

Just after I posted this you wouldn't believe it, but a Monsoon trough came down and it's been raining for days. Way to go Fayleane. |
