If not Zenawi’s, whose war is it then?

If not Zenawi’s, whose war is it then?
Aklilu Demissie

The war mongering and bravado of the Meles war machine has been heating and now due to overheating is miserably failing after months of flurry and frenzied movement to establish a cause for invading Somalia by visiting Uganda , Kenya and Sudan by the dictator. These countries and Djibouti have withdrawn the Meles backed intervention plan. And they saw no reason in interfering in a sovereign country. And are going for a peaceful settlement of the situation contrary to what Meles prescribed and imposed on them.

It is astonishing as well to see the spell of Meles’ deceit that blinded these nations for years shattered. The dictator stands out alone with his only misguided backer Jendayi Frazer. One common denominator of tyrannical regimes is always destroying the peace, stability and social life of a society so that their time in power will prosper under uncertainties and war. The days of Meles propaganda machine’s easy winning of hearts and minds by beating a war drum to divert and deviate the attention of the Ethiopian people from his gruesome atrocities on citizens are already gone and dead.

The burning issues, for Ethiopians today, are stopping the massive human rights abuses that have continued at unimaginable scale, the release of all political prisoners and transfer of power to the elected peoples’ representatives.

The border war between Brothers during1998-2000 had been also an excellent lesson for all devoted Ethiopians who despite the Meles brutal leadership yanked and mobilized as a one nation to secure the border that our forefathers handed to us with all respects and responsibility.
After all the sacrifice, they were even made to celebrate for a lost territory.

Far more worse, the gallantry of Ethiopia ’s brave men and women in defense of the Motherland were ridiculed by Woyane cadres as those who have come to fight for they had nothing to work or eat in their neighborhoods, in the latter days.

In innumerable times the Woyane regime [Meles] has abundantly made clear to Ethiopians in his derogatory, disparaging incessant remarks that the land Ethiopia to have been a fable land. It is this same man who said that he didn’t and does not care or never had known an Ethiopian entity or had never existed in history other than in a form of an imposition. Paradoxically, when he and his cronies understood that no one was in favor of war in Somalia , he had the audacity to tell the opposition and the Ethiopian people that it is a historical sore and a hitch. Alas! This is the same crook that is always in a rant to disprove Ethiopia ’s history. To all intense and purposes he couldn’t retrieve a patch of land or let alone bring back Ethiopia ’s unity.

Submerging the population by constant feeling of distress brought on by impending danger of invasion from Islamic Courts is now another life line strategy for survival of the dying regime. The regime’s hullabaloo of criticizing citizens being reluctant defending the Motherland until Addis is attacked is another ridiculous desperate feature. Isn’t Addis already invaded by gun totting Agazzie militia trained to decimate the population? What is more of an invasion when it is carried out by sworn enemy of Ethiopia [Meles] on the very same people he purports to protect? True, Ethiopia is invaded by a rag tag ethnic militia. That is the number one concern of Ethiopians.

As to protecting the Motherland from any possible invasion of Ethiopia ’s territory from Somalia ’s Islamic Courts, Meles doesn’t have an historic or moral authority to tell Ethiopians how to defend it.

Ascribed to his innate destruction of Ethiopia , what is the guarantee that he will not give Ogadenia to the beleaguered Transitional Government of Somalia (TGS) if at all he succeeds prop up the War Lords known of wanton destruction of Somalia . He has never cared in the north, and what is Ogaden for him. Ethiopia has been abandoned by him long ago. Why should Ethiopians die for the War Lords? It is their [Somalis] war and Zenawi’s war, and let them fight for it. Spare and leave alone Ethiopia : The Ethiopia that had been imprinted from generation to generation in the hearts and minds of patriotic citizens with its unique diversity and unity since time immemorial.

The fight should be against crushing poverty and repression. The dictator knows the days of his indefensible brutal regime are numbered.

If the Union of Islamic Courts dare attack Ethiopia beyond their recognized border, both Christian and Muslims of Ethiopia know how to defend every inch of their territory. Would they be allowed to genuinely defend the Motherland while the dictator is in power?

His promise of crushing Islamic Courts to his masters in Washington may have proved to be too much of a commitment with out the people of Ethiopia endorsing it regardless of his reign of terror on citizens under the very eyes of Democratic Champions in the State Department.

For Meles surviving by war mongering, saber rattling, deceit, repression and division and attention diversion from real issues is no longer attainable.

Before every thing else, peaceful settlement of disputes both inside and outside of the country should be in the demagogue’s sleeves not guns.
