May 15 rally canceled
Ethiopian civic and political organizations canceled the May 15 rally in Washington DC Ethiopian Review May 6, 2006 At the urging of spiritual leaders and community elders, the Ethiopian civic and political organizations joint task force canceled the scheduled May 15 rally in Washington DC that was organized to commemorate last year's elections in Ethiopia. Concerned community elders intervened after the Kinijit North America Support Committee withdrew itself from the joint task force that had been organizing mass demonstrations in Washington DC for the past several months and called its own demonstration on May 16 by itself. Several attempts were made by the joint task force to meet with the Kinijit Support Group to discuss about organizing a special event on May 15. But Kinijit Support Committee even refused to hold a meeting with the task force, let alone plan any thing jointly. After the elders intervened, the Kinijit support committee made itself available for discussion separately with UEDF, dismissing the other civic and political groups as non-entities. The UEDF delegation that held a meeting with Ato Berhane Mewa, Secretary of Kinijit Support Committee, tried to convince him that other Kinijit support groups in Europe and around the world will be commemorating May 15 as a special day in unison with other Ethiopian political and civic groups and that Ethiopians in United States need to join them in this special day. The UEDF delegation also pleaded with Ato Berhane that it is important for Kinijit North America Support Committee to continue collaborating with other political and civic groups and urged him to come to the joint task force meeting. Ato Berhane was not convinced in all counts. He said that Kinijit North America will NOT celebrate May 15 because this day will be celebrated by the Meles regime. He also dismissed members of the joint task force as useless groups who don't even have 15 members. After hearing such a response from the Kinijit support group official, the joint task force decided to go ahead and prepare for a rally on May 15 in front of the White House. Permits were obtained and announcements were distributed to the media. Community elders who thought that this would cause division in the community decided to intervene and bring the two sides together. But Kinijit Support Group officials told them that they are not interested in meeting with the task force members. Last night, after hearing a pleading by a representative of the elders to save the community from division, and out of respect for those elected leaders who are languishing in jail, the joint task force decided to cancel the May 15 rally. However, the task force members strongly expressed their belief that May 15 should have been observed in a special way by every Ethiopian in the Washington DC area with Ethiopians around the world. Every one was saddened by the arrogance and divisiveness of the Kinijit North America Support Committee officials, particularly its secretary, Berhane Mewa. By taking such a divisive stand, the North America Kinijit Support Committee not only tried to allow the Meles regime to claim May 15 as its day of victory, thus undermining the accomplishments of the Kinijit leaders and members who have paid so much sacrifice for their May 15 victory, but also attempted to divide the Ethiopian community in the Washington DC area that is united more than ever. In fact, the Kinijit North America Support Committee has been absent from all aspects of the struggle to free our leaders and intensify the struggle. In the diplomatic field, the Support Committee hired a lobbyist spending hundreds of thousands of dollars, instead of bringing together highly experienced professional Ethiopians around the Washington DC area who could have done a better job for free. Congressman Chris Smith's assistant Gregory Simpkins once told them to save their money because they would be more effective if they contact the congressmen directly instead of through a lobbyist. Political group such as Kinijit Support Committee do no need lobbyists like corporations do. The members can do the lobbying for free and more effectively. The Kinijit North America Support Group is absent from supporting the Kinijit regional organizers, many of whom are now homeless and have nothing to feed their family with. Not a penny of the money that the Kinijit North America is collecting from Kinijit supporters is reaching those who are suffering. This is not a hearsay. Ethiopian Review has collected numerous evidences and shared some of them with various Kinijit support committees in the United States and Europe. After looking at these evidences, and conducting their own investigations, some local support committees have stopped sending money to the North America Kinijit account, and instead they are sending the money they are collecting from their members directly to Ethiopia. Ethiopian Review is willing to share these evidences with a special investigative panel formed jointly by Kinijit support committees in the United States, Europe and Canada. The families of many of Kinijit's top leaders are financially suffering and they are not receiving a penny from the North America Support Committee. This is easy to prove since all one has to do is pick up the phone and call them. Even Kinijit Vice President Birtukan Mideksa's family is in desperate financial situation after she was arrested. She was a breadwinner of the family. The Support Committee would not send a penny to Birtkuan's family. Instead, Ato Berhane Mewa is asking some Kinijit supporters to put up some money for buying a taxi to support Judge Birtukan's family. Meanwhile, he receives thousands of dollars in salary from Kinijit North America every month. As a result of lack of leadership by the Kinijit North America Support Committee, over 70 Kinijit members have now entered parliament. Most of these Kinijit members do not want to enter parliament while their leaders are languishing in jail. But they had to choose between entering parliament and wait for a better time, and starving their families. Because of their Kinijit membership, most of these individuals have lost their jobs, their businesses, and their homes. The Kinijit North America Support Committee doesn't even call them to give them moral support, let alone financial support. These are facts that any concerned Kinijit supporter or member must investigate for him/her self if he/she is truly a Kinijit supporter. Ethiopian Review had conducted numerous teleconferences to solve these problems with the Kinijit North America officials and other concerned Ethiopians. For doing this, ER publisher was accused by Kinijit North America's Head of Diplomacy, Dr Seyoum Solomon, of being a Woyanne agent who arranged the arrest of Kinijit leaders. What more is expected from a lame brain wino? ER Publisher is also being labeled: "Shabia," "Ye Lidetu Agent," "CIA," "Eritrean," "Wolloye," "OLF," etc. In the coming few day, Ethiopian Review will present more fact-based, documented, detailed accounts of what the Kinijit North America Support Committee has and HAS NOT been doing since the Kinijit leaders were thrown in jail. In the end, it will become clear who is really anti-Kinijit, who is giving aid and comfort to the fascist regime of Meles Zenawi, directly or indirectly, and who has a hidden, selfish motive. |

በሰፈሩት ቁና መሰፈር አይቀርም (Beseferut Kuna mesefer aykerim.) The editor of ER called me woyane once for critisizing him and now some are calling him the same. So Elias Kifle is not the first one to be called woyanne and will not be the last one. Unless, the Ethiopian people come togther and avoid confrontation for every opposing view, we are doomed to fail. Politics is politics and we should separate the issue from the personality. why do we attack the person rather than the issue he advocates? If half of the Ethiopian population supports EPRDF or OLF, we can't say 40 million enemies of Ethiopia. Why can't we move on without attacking someone just because we don't agree with him? It is shame on all of us. Shame I tell you.

Here we go again, The title says, the May 15 rally cancelled while the story is written based on Gossip and personal disagreement with aim that would benefit nobody. This is the job to those don't understand the difference between Ethiopian way of thinking and doing things and the west. If you are professional enough and are part of the western media value, go there. We are even not enough to feed ourselves. There is no stabile or even a type of democracy in the Ethiopian political life that you can write anything you want and everything would stay the same or would be okay. ER, You are criticizing others with the message reflecting your personal disagreement. But when we criticize you, you are deleting it. Is it your professionalism? The message you wrote in this particular Topic ‘May 15 rally cancelled’ is beyond the Title. You went again so far disrespecting your customers serving them with wrong, dangerous and divisive messages is not right. Come back to your sense. |

Dear Mr.Elias and the "elders", If you beleive May 15 is the right date and if you have enough supporters to rally behind it, why don't you go ahead as scheduled. This will help us understand how your ideas and objectives are the one to follow or not. Do not hesitate. Please show us that you are bigger than the people's party. |

ER, Yes, we need strong, determine and brave Ethiopians like you against the Ethiopian troubles and enemies not against those doing their best to make things better in the right direction. You are gesturing your fingers against Kinijit NA with very angry, disrespectful and powerful character that you will show them who really you are. Do you think this will help Ethiopia and us? No. The energy, determination, knowledge and resources you are planning to use against kinijit NA, would benefit emotionally and practically you and all of us when you use it to correct the mistake happening in Kinijit NA if there is any. Don't bring here your personal disagreement saying this man/that woman has called me names. You must be an example with good behaviours. We knew/know you who really you are. When you accuse somebody, you need a judge and witness. The people you are serving are the witnesses and judges. Approaching the situation with the right spirit and readiness for positive outcome is the only way to take us to a better tomorrow. I hope, your internal feeling with anger and I will show them fret, will cool down and you will take initiative to solve the difference between you and others you are thinking have with them a problem. Don't be another Lidetu. I’m not saying you are with multiple personality as he was/is. I’m saying the life he has after the selling out of the Ethiopian people they trusted, admired and loved as far as he became a living God to them. You know the life he has today. He is not welcome anywhere. Even street children are throwing stones against him. People are making jokes laughing at him disrespecting as if he was less than any living things around them. TPLF has abandoned him after they became sure that he has major conflicts between Kinjit, Ethiopian people and organizations. He became another victim of TPLF strategy that is choose targets, be best friend with them giving what they want and then abandon or accuse them to isolate from the political games. To eliminate Lidetu from political platform was/is the biggest achievement TPLF has scored for many years. If he stayed with the Ethiopian people, nobody would challenge him in anything concerning Ethiopia as the Ethiopian people were living with/for him. Listen Tensae radio to know more about Lidetu. He is not only politically dead but also the life he is living to the rest of his life will reminding us how looks living in hell by watching him. I don't want you to take that kind of direction. Although I didn't meet you, I feel you as a man to be trusted. I also know you want the best to Ethiopia. I categorize you with the few giving their interest to the country. But, your way of achieving that goal is sometimes causing some accidents as if you are riding your car without knowing all rules about. Many people are dying while riding their own and best cars to reach somewhere. Others also are dying while flying above the cloud with own planes to reach to some places. You also are riding with big responsibility having in heart and mind Ethiopia and her people to see them somewhere that has to be good for them. Any accident you are making would get very big consequences as the people are with you. So, be careful, responsible, easy, God loving, know how to forgive, not emotional and most importantly give the judgment to the people. You have to concentrate on the people. Stop gesturing at Kinijit NA. This benefit nobody except bad things to you and others. Be merciful and let it go if there is any. Concentrate to the future with positive and right spirit. Conflict solve nothing good to the mass. |

All these are a result of woyane's massive investments aimed at breaking up the CUD and re-constructing a fake one around it. Because the effort concentrated in the American 'hotspot', one can clearly see how fast this group is melting away while the European group is rather consolidating its efforts and moving on with a lot of passion and support. Even this will continue only until woyane takes similar steps. Although it may not be appropriate to accuse any leader or supporter of CUD without evidence, one can safely comment on the basis of achievements. All we hear everyday is a bad news. In my view, CUD-NA's benefit–cost ratio is a disappointing 0:100. I advice that alternative ways of using any financial support be explored to achieve greater impacts. Paying thousands of dollars to the group members in salaries is unacceptable and would destroy the very idea of the struggle and the unit would only become a source of livelihood for the elites. It is even more troubling when this comes without achievements. ER publisher: I like much of your writings, but I am not very comfortable with some of your judgements that could be as simplistic as those of CUD-NA group relating to: "who is who" "who is doing what", etc. Never believe that any info you have can allow you to judge "who could be who". Nature interacting with day-to-day political and social engagements make this the most complex thing to figure out. This is effectively beyond one's comprehension and we can only ASSUME. As you may guess, I intend to bring out the issue of Ato Lidetu and Dr. Berhanu Nega. I remember that your judgment was that Berhanu was the mastermind of CUD's failure by siding with woyane, whereas Lidetu was the most trustworthy and only one working hard towards CUD's victory by showing strong resistance. I don't have to tell you what happened a couple of weeks later. I am sure this is a good reason why we should refrain from such judgements. It has no benefit except 'tizibt' Thank you. |

I do not know Berhane Mewa nor the ER editor. But, what I see unfolding here saddens me, as it lacks maturity and tolearnce of differing views. If ER continues with this path, I see it gradually undermining itself, as a credible and democratic forum for progressive Ethiopians.

Dear guys, I am fade up with all what is happening. I am a stronger supporter of Kinijit. But I think the leadership hasn't been as strong as the supporter. The supporter went as far as paying their lives. Now we are talking about the salary of Berhane Mewa. I don't even understand why he should be the leader of Kinijit. I am not sure whether a background check was done before he was given such a post. Anyways we still need strong leaders to pursue our struggle and to free our leaders. But when I see all these I ask myself, what would have happened if our party won the election and took over power. Do you the leadership would have been able to stand in unity and lead the country better than EPRDF? |

True Kinijit leaders are in prison. The Kinijit office is occupied by Berhane Mewa and the likes who worked for EPRDF/TPLE untill 2004. This is not blackmailing, this is a public record. What do you expect from Berhane and Andargachew who sepent most of their political life serving woyane than the Ethiopian people? The woyane cadres are not coming and going, in fact they are in Kinijit and staying untill the true kinijit leaders are released and take up the leadership. Berhane and his colleagues will do anything to promote antiunity agenda. Disappointingly, they are doing it in the name of Kinijit. God Bless Ethiopia! |

Since Woyane is referring to many of the news of ER as an evidence for the treason and bla bla charges, I am becoming suspicious of ER. Now, Elias Kifle is tryin to convince his readers that kinjit North America is divisive, surprising. All Ethiopians know who Brehane Mewa is, so no one will get fooled with what you write here. Besides, I would like to comment to you that you better opt for good news that your redears can read other than spreading divisive news like this one. |

mr ER If you think your ego or your organisation is bigger than the Ethiopian people you are mistaken. What ever rumours and enuendos you post here will not deflect the struggle of the Ethiopian people for democracy and justice. The real struggle is being done by the people facing the fascist junta on the front line, in the prisons, concentration camps and in the streets and mountains and vallyes of Ethiopia. Thank you ER for standing up when things are tough. If we see the volume of oppposition to woyane since and before it came to power it is baffeling how it stayed on power. Woyane stayed on power because the opposition politicians and organization decapitated the power of the Ethiopian people by dividing and attacking for personal or group glory. Many Ethiopians in the diaspora and inside the country realising this pressured this groups by with holding funds, by supporting organizations such as EDP that professed for the unity of not only Ethiopia but the political process it self. This pressure and dwindling support to this organizations at last forced them to sit and talk to each other. The Ethiopians spirit was revived and scored a major victory against their enemies on may 15th 2005. The next day the victory was taken away because of the inept leadership that valued personal glory over the interest of the Ethiopian people. Since then all the gains that have been made are being given away one by one and Ethiopians are left with less freedom and less choice each passing minute. What is worst is any one who criticised this ineptness is being character assassinated in every possible way using resources that would have been used to educate Ethiopians on how to effectively fight woyane. Today the Ethiopian people victory is being changed piece by piece like an old car thrown in somale tera for personal glory by few individuals like Birhane Mewa. This are not woyane agents, this are the agents of their own stomach. We have turned the tide previously from the disastrous road they have taken the Ethiopian people and we can do it again. When we do it we do not need to sink to their level, but exposing the ineptness in the leadership. I would like to thank Tegbar and ER for this bold action, for the courage they shown by exposing those who hemorrhaging the struggle but showing maturity by compromising for the sake of unity. We can not leave the struggle for few individuals, we each have to carry our burden. |

Some people who think it is appropriate to commemorate, can do so if there are some who think it is not the right thing to do can leave it.. This should not be an issue to divide the opposition.. I Suggest that Elias stop posting this disagreements in the webpage and find another means of communication with Berhane and the support committee.. I hope Elias will stop this string of discussion in the web.... cheers |

I am a concerned Ethiopian by what is being posted in the Ethiopian Review website. Over the past several days, ER has been posting defamatory and senseless articles accusing Kinijit USA of dividing the Ethiopian people in their struggle against the Woyane regime. I personally find the articles to be defamatory, devisive, deceptive, unprofessional, and very dangerous! Kinijit USA needs to immediately give a press release to avert the potential disaster that is looming because of ER's villification campain against Kinijit USA and its leaders. Kinijit USA needs to let the Ethiopian people know the truth, particulary where it stands vis-a-vis the accusations that are being made against it and its leaders. Otherwise, silence on the part of Kinijit USA would be taken to mean acceptance of the allegations made by ER by many and our fear of division will be a reality! I strongly urge Kinijit USA to issue a press release explaining its position IMMEDIATELY!!! May God bless Ethiopia! Elohe |

Hi Tasew The tone of threat that says as we have done that to Lidetu we will do it to you is quite clear. I have never cared for Lidetus arrogance and know it all attitude. But most Ethiopians surely know who did that to him It is not woyane, it is the character assassination factory that is using the the funds provided to it to fight woyane. They destroyed Lidetu not for the sake of the Ethiopian people but not to share the lime light with him. Should Tensae spend so much precious air time to report on a mundane incident that happened to a politically dead inconsequential individual? What I heard from Tensae radio is a desperation that Lidetu might revive. What next assassinate him? But know this knowing that he is incapacitated by his own comrades woyane has no need to kill Lidetu. He will not be any threat to them in foreseeable future. But he is a real threat for those who fabricated all those lies if the truth comes out and the next step might be assassinating him. Here I am not advocating Ethiopians not to help Tensae, by all means do help it since it is the only means Ethiopians get news. But be discriminating about the messages. And hold accountable those who abused the trust you have given them. The day will come. And certainly help ER for staying true to it's principles. My next months contribution goes to ER. Dear active members of Kinijit Chapters or Support Groups, Can you please help me to explain the relationship between poverty, backwardness and arrogance? How come that while we are economically poor, dependent upon outsiders, educationally backward and intellectually immature, and yet so intolerably arrogant and destructive? How do you explain that - the arrogant and destructive behaviours of Ethiopians? Aren’t these factors the key to the many misunderstanding, confusions and conflicts? I would further like to ask you to help me explain with acceptable and well grounded statements and arguments about the reasons why Kinijit Chapters or Support Groups in various countries and areas are persistently reluctant to work with the Ethiopian Task Force, which includes Kinijit itself, Hibret, or UEDF, the Ethiopian Civic Societies worldwide, the Ethiopian media outlets and friends of Ethiopia? Why is that? Is going it alone the right path or much better and makes a political party stronger rather than working cooperatively with as many organizations and individuals as possible? Where do the sources of the currently growing and manifesting problems facing Kinijit come from? Many Ethiopians believe that, while the house of Kinijit was initially constructed and built by wise, well known and highly respected Ethiopian intellectuals, a good number of the current members of the various Kinijit Chapters or Support Groups are said to be educationally backward, psychologically emotional and intellectual immature and yet, unacceptably arrogant. Additionally, the Kinijit Chapters have in recent time been also accused of being dominated by rigid and uncompromising Neftengas and resentful Derg cadres who are creating many obstacles to work with other political parties and individuals. We have also been hearing so often from many members of Kinijit Chapters that both Kinijit and its struggle belong only to them and not to those who lost their lives and to those languishing in jail while resisting the heinous crimes of tyrant TPLF leadership. Should we then believe that such arrogantly made statements are conducive to strengthening the unity and strength of Kinijit? Statements made today for instance by someone named “Sidetegna” are obvious reflections of such arrogant and stupid behviours of some of Chapters and supporters of Kinijit. Such statements are also sources of discouragement to many highly motivated and hardworking Kinijit members and supporters like myself. The arrogant and most irresponsible “Sidetegna” says so arrogantly and unashamedly to the Ethiopian elders and the Ethiopian community residing in Washington DC area …….if you have enough supporters to rally behind it, why don't you go ahead as scheduled. This will help us understand how your ideas and objectives are the one to follow or not. Do not hesitate. Please show us that you are bigger than the people's party.” I It seems that many of you did not realize how most people – Kinijit supporters are becoming frustrated and disgusted by such arrogant behaviours and statements. It must clearly understood that Ethiopians have been and are still behind Kinijit and its objectives. It is however, wrong to assume that Kinijit will have the same number of people screaming behind it by late this afternoon or tomorrow. That would be a wishful thinking. Tamralech Akalework |

Lidetu get his neck guillotined because he mistook the support for a “party” as a support for a “person”. The Ethiopian people have now ceased fussing over personalities. Elias, On one hand you seem to listen to elders, on the other you have to write all this slander. If the elders had to choose between you going out on March 15 with your friends and writing all this slander, the elders would prefer you go out and demonstrate with your friends on March 15. Because, all they were trying to do in my mind is to stop such divisive discussions like this one. You have already done the damage they were trying to avoid. I am not any more surprised why the KINIJIT office in DC does not want to work with you. In my opinion, from here on just get your supporters and go out and demonstrate whenever you wish, the more the demonstrations, the better for our voice to be heard. In fact, go out and form a new party and run it the way you wish, as you happen to have such concrete plans of your own. Lastly, for the readers, just stop a minute and ask whom do you think the KINIJIT leaders in Kaliti would trust to represent them? Elias (ER) who has been praising Ledetu and bashing Berhanu Nega or Berhane Mewa, who stood up to Meles in a memorable face to face debate that all Ethiopians in Ethiopia witnessed for themselves? We just have to ask ourselves what benefit is it to our struggle when Elias tells us not to contribute money to the only representative of KINIJIT in NA and in the process sow suspicions among supporters? Elias’s complain about the KINIJIT NA spending money unwisely may be legitimate. Even though, on one hand he tells us that the NA KINIJIT office looks shabby (poor), on the other he tells us they are spending more money here - a bit confusing. Still, I suggest he goes to the elders and let them look into it and tell us what they find and equally, we would like to hear from KINIJIT NA office their side of the story. If Elias in the meantime is using his web site to be the police/prosecutor/judge, then he forgot that it is precisely this kind of behavior we are fighting against TPLF/Meles; it has never been because of ‘the color of his eyes’. |

Dear Elias, I have been telling you that you are a very analytically poor writer. You don't even know what the Ethiopian people, who pays painstaking sacrifice is wanting to hear. You are abusing your power as a website host. We all can not be politician , specially those of us like "you and you" who are following our emotions and hearsays. I remember one time when you wrote a lengthy stuff that support Lidetu and condemn Dr. Birhanu Nega. Don't you even learn from your mistakes- that you messed up just months ago? I think you have a little Meles inside you- that celebrates division! Would you leave our kinijit leaders alone? |

Caesar Alex- You have said it all!!! God bless you ! Dear Elias Kifle, The problem with you and your likes is that you underestimate the current level of political consciousness among the Ethiopian people. Lidetu get his neck guillotined because he mistook the support for a “party” as a support for a “person”. The Ethiopian people have now ceased fussing over personalities. Let alone for Lidetu and you yourself, the Ethiopian people do not give a **** about Alamoudin. Running a website, for that matter a website that is not often objective, does not make you a boss over CUD. Lidetu has tried it with his personality; Alamoudin has tried it with his money; now you are trying to do it with your website. Beware, your propaganda will backfire, and get you guillotined like Alamoudin and Lidetu |

Alright, Mr. ER, your tirade aside, so you have come to your senses and cancelled the May 15 affair. If you really, REALLY mean it, cross-my-heart-and-hope-to-die and Medhane-Alem-dibin-yargenge kinda mean it, then do the following: 1) REMOVE the link on the main ER page that still announces in bold red font “Ethiopians in USA will gather in front of the White House on May 15” 2) CREATE a link on the main ER page that announces in bold red font “May 15 Cancelled: Ethiopian civic and political organizations canceled the May 15 rally in Washington DC” |

In addition ITS TIME FOR KINJIT NORTH AMERICA to dismiss this accusation or accepet it ASAP...This should't wait any longer. |

what is going to happen to Cud (North america) ??? Is it lobbying or brocking ? Do we achieve our goal by paying hundreds of dollars to old senators, pensions ?? Is this not corruption ?? Have they tried all means possible before taking such mechanism, or are they simply choosed to confuse us and missuse all millions of dollars we contributed so far? The same thing happened when OLF rejected wayane parliament and were baned by eprdf: many representative transformed and missused all millions of dollars organization had. In our case what ato brihanu mewa and co. doing is very critical and would be shame for all of us whom supporting these corrupted leaders of cud (North america)

Elias kifle is becoming more and more open and enlightned us why the N/A Kinijit is not doing its level best and achieve the expected level of progress. Elias has to be commendable to his meticules profeesion. We are expecting more and more positive critiscism. Most of the posts bashing him at his comments are from woyane agents who wish us diveded. So far no official response from N/A Kinijt. This shows either their contempt to public outcry , or lack of farsightdness, or they have accepted the critiscism or a combination of a all. I think more and more people become suspicious whether they have a hidden motive. |

Hi Mr.Elias, You wrote me an e-mail directly and post it on your forum, too, by the assumed name of Tamralech Akalewold. If this person was really different than you are, I could not be able to get it directly in my mail box, because I provided it only to you. I don't mind your critisism, but I don not want you to pretend to be someone else to confuse your readers. When I tried to encourage you for the May 15 rally, I deliberately put the name "elders" in qoutation mark to separate the real ones from those of your makings. Anybody can go back and refer to the statement. Therefore, no offense to the true and living elders of Washington DC. By the way Mr. Elias, I am not a member of CUDP, even not a supporter. I swear I did not gave a penny to their cause. However, my family residing in Ethiopia beleive CUDP is their hope for now. |

Hello my dear Ethiopian people, I am not a politician or I am not interested in getting involved in any political activities, but after reading this forum I decided to share an e-mail that I got from a family member a couple of months ago. I am sharing this with you because I did not know what the e-mail was about at the time and now it made sense to me. I was wondering why this e-mail was circulating while the CUD NA offices can handle this situation on their own. I asked my friends that follow politics and I was told the CUD NA leaders have refused to send money to the family of the jailed leaders while they themselves are receiving a handsome amount of salary to sit in the DC office. I care about my country even if I don't participate in politics, and I read about the situation back home sometimes. Here is the e-mail, read and judge for yourself. Some of you may have gotten this e-mail also. I removed the name of the person to protect the identity of the person who wrote this e-mail. ------------------------------------------- Please share this e-mail with family and friends and I am counting on you to take the lead and get the job done. Thanks, XXXXX Judge Bertukan Mideksa, who has been incarcerated in woyane's dungeon since November 2005, was a hard working lawyer who was also the sole provider for her daughter Haley and her extended family. After joining the CUD, she worked for free dispensing her legal expertise for the party and was basically living off of her savings as the election crisis dragged on culminating in her arrest along with the entire Kinijit Leadership. I have been assigned the task of raising funds to support Judge Bertukan's family and I am asking each and everyone of you to rise up to the occassion and help me complete my assignment. I believe it will be redundant for me to remind all of you the immense sacrifice this brilliant woman and courgeous mother is paying for the cause of freedom and justice in our beloved homeland. She has made us all proud and taught us by her example how to live generously. I just want to say that I would like to do this in a very dignified manner out of respect for her and her family. I suggest that each one of you team up with family and friends to support this blessed cause. My goal is to raise $10, 000 and my time line is to get it done by Orthodox Easter, if possible . Let's do it for Bertukan! I have a contact in Addis that I'm working with and as soon as the funds are collected it will be transferred to the family and you'll get a financial report. If you have any questions or suggestions please feel free to contact me anytime via e-mail or call me on my cell @ XXX-XXX-XXXX. We are all our sister's keeper! Ke Akebrot Misgana Gar, XXXX XXXXX Please make your checks out to XXXXX XXXXX and send it to: PO Box XXXX Portland, OR 97208 |

I just couldn't understand ER's editorial points, and its goal by spreading gossips. I personnaly believe that the Ethiopian people need to celebrate May 15 as a day the public stands as one for change. I do not understand the reason behind the North American Kiniget representatives' not to celebrate that day. I appreciate the individuals involved to save the unity of the Ethiopian community. However,it is mind boggling to see the ER editorial is trying to destroy the unity others try to preserve so hard. One thing I observed in ER editorial is that they seem to be emotional and take things personal. How ER handled The Ledetu Ayalew Vs Dr. Berhanu Nega case could be a good example in this regard. I personally urge the ER not to take confrontational and divisive approach on any matter. If ther is any account or issues ER needs clarification, please take the time and effort to reach to the bottom with involved individuals and organizations. Misinformation is dangerous especially at this information age. ER please, use your website for the strength of our community. If you keep on the way you have mentioned , I'll never vist your website and make sure that whom ever I know will know you better. Memeher, Canada. |

Dear participants, This man called Berhanu Mewa, has evaded tax in his own country, Ethiopia. How do you gus have a leader who is a tax evader. Vocal diaspora, wake up and do the right thing. Why dont you build schools, clinics etc instead of wallowing in a quagmire of hatred to Meles or EPDRF. Is Cud a collection of criminals and tax evaders? Happy May 15, Socrates |

Hi Sidetegna, YOU SHOULD EXPLAIN TO ELIAS SAYING THAT THE ERROR YOU MADE WAS DUE TO YOUR BACKWARDNESS AND APOLOGIZE TO HIM I just came back from a small meeting with the Kinijit Chapter in my area. While going quickly through all words of war among the “cursed people of Ethiopia,” I found your second or third note exclusively directed at hammering again and again Elias Kifle. Elias Kifle is actually becoming a victim of your backwardness. This is because that you did not and don’t know that your e-mail address is that small house standing with small red mark on top of it, just under your name and is clickable, which provides your e-mail address and which means that everyone is able to exchange e-mails directly and individually with each other. I think you should explain to Elias saying that the error you made was due to your backwardness and apologize to him. It is me, not Elias who e-mailed you a copy of my text some hours ago. tamralech akalework |

Hi Mr. Tamralech, You don't know me,but you described me as arrogant, backward, uneducated, etc. As I told you I was reading your forum for a while. This week, however, your irritated me a lot. I only posted couple of messages for the first time this week, and you are trying to trash me too. Again your description does not fit me and it won't worry me a bit. I want to let you know that I have expressed my feelings once and for all. I am done with you and your forum. I wish to hear nice things about you in the near future. If staying longer in the U.S. is the measure of advancement, I am residing in the U.S. long before the ouster of the Dergue. If western education may be another measure of yours, I don't have any less qualification than yours, but in a different profession. If the passion for Ethiopian politics may be one other measure of yours, I have seen the prison of the Dergue for more than a year. Therefore, don't expect an apology for the probable mistake arose due to your own arrogance for the undeserving attention you were seeking above the people's party. Again wish to hear nice things about you and your forum. Bye Bye now. |
