Re: "Impossible to meet Anita again" by Law Kwan Cho

Just found the proper English title for this book is "Anita, Never and Forever"

This book is in English only. Due to copyright, it is inappropriate for me to translate here.

After I posted the cover here, I started reading it. Finished in less than 2 hours. Easy reading, direct to the point, the writer didn't play on the words.

Many stories we might have known already, but instead of media, this time, those stories we have already known and many stories we don't know are told by a close friend, it completely eliminates my suspicion if they are true.

Well done, Law Kwan Cho! Your book definitely will make people know Anita better, and make us to re-value the meaning of our life. Also because of this writing of yours , I hope more of her close friends will be inspired by you to write autobiography or biography about Anita. In Fact, the book I most wish to see is by Ms So Siu Chun

If you don't have a copy yet, go and grab one. Law donated the sales of this book to "The Comfort Care Concern Group" a non profit organization, www.cccg.org.hk

Hi Woodstock,

Thank you! I am so happy it is in English too. I cannot read Chinese. I am touched by Law Kwan Cho friendship. He is a true friend of Anita. Every year at Anita's anniversary, he was there to pay his respect was what I saw in news clips.

Sorry, Sheila, I made unforgivable mistake in my posting above . The book is in CHINESE only, no English version.

You are correct. In one of the prefaces of this book which was written by So Siu Chun, she mentioned "After Mui passed away, not many people come on her birthday or death anniversary, but Bun Zai always shows up".

Re: "Impossible to meet Anita again" by Law Kwan Cho

Replying to Sheila's comment under the other thread

"Anita sang this song beautifully and full of emotions. Anita always sing from the heart. She can truly sing other singers song so gracefully and with perfection."

I'd like to quote what Law said in his book:

"I seldom saw Anita practice singing, but whenever she sang, she sang so good.

"I took singing lesson from Ms Kwok, and I practice often, but always felt that I could not sing well. I asked Anita for advice, she said 3 words:

"'Sing with Heart", and she added,
"'Use Heart, bad things would turn to be good things.'

"Correct! The reason for failure is often because we don't use our heart, not because we are not capable. From that time onwards, 'Use Heart' has become the motto for whatever I do and for my life."

I will quote Law's book from time to time at appropriate occasions, so that Chinese illiterate fans might also know some stories about Anita which we didn't know in the past.

Woodstock, I read the book after you mentioned it on this website. She was truly amazing. There is so much that we can learn from her. To show my support, I donated some money to Anita Mui 'True Heart' Charity Foundation. Thanks creating and maintaining this website.

I'm glad that you like the book.

"She was truly amazing. There is so much that we can learn from her."

Totally agree with you. But I'm afraid that I can never be as good as she was, because she was just too good.

Re: "Impossible to meet Anita again" by Law Kwan Cho

Under the other thread, we were talking about Anita's memory, I immediately remember this little story told by Law in his book

"Love singing and dancing fervently - Love stage fervently

Seldom saw Anita practicing singing and dancing, but never seen a person who loves dancing so much. Don't know why, she never walked properly or stood still, her feet always danced around. When we went to Disco together, if we didn't let her drink, no problem. But if we didn't let her dance, she immediately got mad.

"Of course, she loved stage fervently. Only if she wanted to sing, or to dance, there was no need of stage. Even just a space as small as 1 sq inch, it would be her stage, her eyes immediately would sparkle with brightness! More audience the happier she would be. I often laughed and said: 'If I have money, I would open a dancing hall and let you be in charge, love dancing so much.'

"Must 'love' first, then can be brilliant. This is 100% true. Young people, if you are not interested in people or in things around you, neither you love them fervently, then if you want to be a successful person, it's very very difficult.

"I seldom accompanied her to rehearse dancing. This time when we arrived at the venue, the dancers and the choreographer, Joseph, were there already. Anita asked: 'How to dance for this song?' Joseph said: "I will let someone dance once for you.'

"Anita sat down and watched. After that dancer finished, it's Anita's turn. Surprisingly she danced exactly the same, it's an shocking experience to me. She told me, when she sang with her sister, it was not nice just standing there. So she started to arrange dancing, Ann seldom did it. It's mostly done by Anita, with good results.

"Then Joseph said: ' I have never seen anyone who can sing and dance at the same time, but without going breathless, and not out of tune. Anita can sing and dance at the same time, simply don't have to worry about it.'

"She could sang live without any slight difference from her singing in her records.

"Once during a concert, when she was singing, she shook hands with audience at the same, but she was not out of tune, she didn't make any mistake, or get off key or forget the lyrics. Unexpectedly she heard audience say: 'Definitely it isn't sung by herself, definitely her sister is singing for her.'

"she wasn't happy after heard about this. But I feel she should be happy, because it was just too perfect to make people to believe."

Woodstock,

What a wonderful story - thanks for sharing!

I also remember a journalist visited Anita when she was making the music video for "Moonlight in Chambers" (Chong Tzeen Ming Yuet Gwong). The choreography had arranged these intricate moves for her, and thought it would take hours or even days for most people to learn them. Anita not only learned everything within a few hours, but finished shooting the video in 8 hours total!

For those who have yet to see it, check the link below. It's one of my all-time favorite MVs:

FY:

That's my pleasure. I would like to borrow what BeepBeep said to you under the other thread. "I always admire your skill in translation, so please feel free to edit my translation any time, any where when you can think of a better way to translate certain lines or phrases." Please do so.

-----------------------------------------

Now another incident from the book, it's a bit related to the "language skill" we have been discussing.

"From Kikkawa Koji to Matchy

"In a hot summer evening, Anita called: ‘Accompany me to Another World Disco at 2 o’clock tomorrow.’

"I replied: ‘You will be up already?’ She said: ‘Anyway, tomorrow afternoon at 2:00’

"Together with Lin Yee Fai, we accompanied Anita to that disco. Then we found out that we came to see Kikkawa Koji who was extremely popular in Japan. At that time, in HK music world, it's trendy for everyone to adore Japan. Kikkawa Koji was a super star, he came to HK for promotion. Fortunately by arrangement of the record company, we got introduced to him. We were excited and nervous too.

"After sitting down , we shook hands warmly. Kikkawa immediately got onto the small stage to perform. This was a gathering for fans, not too many people around, but the atmosphere was hilarious. Anita was not familiar with Japanese language, she asked me: ‘You can communicate with Kikkawa to make friends, can’t you?’

"After Kikkawa performed, I talked with him with my limited and simply Japanese. Once conversation started, Anita joined us. Unexpectedly she and Kikkawa began their conversation quickly in English, by single word, broken sentences or gestures. Also sometimes they talked softly, but laughed loudly. Then, acting like an ambassador as she knew the places well, she arranged itinerary of touring Hong Kong for Kikkawa. She didn’t need me anymore. She was simply a talent in communication. I deeply believe if she was left in Africa, there would be no problem, she would become an African quickly.

"When on the stage, Kikkawa was a super star; when off the stage, he was very friendly, and was an extremely kind ordinary man. I believe this was also being professional, retaining the demeanor of true self of the super star. Just like this, we became good friends of Kikkawa.

"Not long after, Anita went to Japan to participate in the Song Festival, and she performed with Hideki Saijo together on the same stage. Also she had to sing the song [Give out my Heart] in Japanese. This was the first time she had to sing in Japanese. Thereupon, she used Chinese, English, and all methods to remember the phonemes (sounds).

Unexpectedly, she not only sang perfectly correct in Japanese, she also got an award. She was extremely happy, even happier than getting awards in Hong Kong.

"Later on, Ching Ching went to study in Japan, and became very good in Japanese language. She then acted as interpreter for Anita. Finally Anita herself attained achievement in Japanese language, and could manage Japanese well.

"Then she got to know Matchy. During Anita’s funeral, Matchy cried sadly in great grief, that shocked everyone there."
