Maybe what we need to do is seperate ideas.
Ok, I used to be one of the biggest WICCA bashers, out there. I have taken the time to do some research, over the last year or so, and I came to a startling conclusion; It's not really Wiccans I can't stand, It's the fact that so many Wiccans spread false dogma. I know other religions have their problems, but lets not try to take the heat off WICCA by saying "well...christians are bad too." That does not debunk the fact that Wiccans spread false information. 1. WICCA IS OLDER THAN GOD: Um wrong! Wicca was "invented" some time around the early 50's, by Gerald Gardner. Also, it is worth noting that several distinguished scholars, including Ronald Hutton have done extinsive research into gardner, and have found ZERO evidence to substantiate the existance of the "origional" witch coven, that Gardner claimed to have "learned" his craft from, and it is believed by a large percentage of the acidemic community, that he simply "made it up." 2. THE BURNING TIMES: There were absolutley zero Wiccans burned during the "burning times." Even though I have read claims that number around nine million, the actual number was around fourty thousand, and since Wicca did not exist prior to the 1950's, there is no way that nine million Wiccans were put to death, between 1550 and 1630. 3. CHRISTIANS HAVE ALWAYS PERSICUTED "MY KIND.": Again, you need to get your facts straight. If by "my kind", you mean your "pagan brethren," your not only wrong, but you don't know much about early christian history. Christians were not always the ones with the power. The Roman Empire, which was a pagan worshiping society, during the formative years of christianity, had plenty of christians put to death, in horrible ways, so lets not act as this is a totally one sided affair. 4. I'M AN ECLECTIC WICCAN, SO GARDNER DOES NOT REALLY MATTER TO ME: What???? What??? The guy INVENTED your religion. Being a wiccan who had never read gardner, is like being a christian who has never cracked The Bible! I guess what these "eclectic" wiccans are really trying to say it, "I'm too lazy to learn the religion, as it was written." If your going to claim a religion, do your homework! There are way too many Wiccans out there who either "got it off the internet" or "learned it from a friend, who got it off the internet." |
