These products can help

My son is allergic to his sports shoes and patch tests at Caradiff Hospital showed he is allergic to shoe resin and the dyes in leather shoes too. The nurse recommended two products from the AllergyBestbuys website. We use Gloves in a Bottle and some special undersocks made of silk. He can wear any type of shoe as long as he has put on either the lotion or the undersocks. It would not be an exaggeration to say these have changed his life. Hope this information helps other sufferers.

Re: These products can help

Harriet, thanks for sharing that info.
I'm going to purchase both products immediately.
I hope it changes my life too!
Have spent all Xmas with another painful, ugly-looking reaction on my feet! surprised I've got any soles left after 5 years of this.
Thank you.
Janine.

I have the same allergies on my feet! HELP!!!

Wondering if you son ever looked into purchasing special shoes made with no glue (hemp or other natural fibers).

I am having a hard time finding anything and looking for help.

I have also been looking at getting CRCOCS but wondering if these will give enough support, and want something else other than CROCS!

Hope you can help as I am frustrated!!!

Re: These products can help

Hi all! I Love this site! I just purchaced a pair of Finn shoes. (Just do a search for Finn shoes) and their site says they are formaldehyde free, no glue's all naturally tanned leather, natural dies, hand stiched. So far, they are comfortable, but they were expensive. I paid 298 for a pair of shoes and 198 for a pair of sandles. Other than that, I found about my alergy from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and she has me doing wet dressing at night. I soak my feet in warm water for 20 min, put on the steroidal cream, then put a wet cotten athletic sock on over the medicine, and let it sit for 20 min. The wet sock really seems to help soak the medicine into my scared thick skin on my feet, and feels good enuf so that I actually sleep at night. Hope this helps!

Hi Crystal! Thanks so much for letting us know about Finn shoes! However, I must be blind, but I can't seem to find where it says on the website that they are PTBP-FR free?

Re: These products can help

Hi Amy,
I found it at: http://www.thinkeuroshoes.com/think-finn/aboutthink

Think and Finn Comfort are the same company. When I got the shoes (which I just got, and am waiting to see a positive effect) They really seem like there is no glues at all. The sole comes out, and is washable, really soft, and they are clearly hand tanned, really soft, with clear stitching. The ones I ordered are comfortable. Hope this helps!

The website states: Think shoes are made of organically tanned leather. Right throughout the inner shoe.. Because this type of leather is simply healthier for the feet. Free from formaldehyde, without chrome and PCP or other harmful substances.. By the way, the bark used for organic tanning is a waste product from logging trees in plantations.

Re: These products can help

Thanks for the info, Crystal. I think, however, that I'm going to wait until I hear back from Finn (I've sent them an email) before I add them to the website. The information on the page you posted seems to apply only to Think! shoes, and I'm not so sure that Think! and Finn are the same company, as Think! is Austrian and Finn is German. Hopefully I'll get some confirmation from Finn itself; it would be nice to add another company to the lists!

Re: These products can help

I just thought I'd post links to the products that Harriet has so helpfully recommended in her email (thanks so much Harriet!).

Gloves in a Bottle: http://www.glovesinabottle.com/

Dermasilk socks: http://www.dermasilk.co.uk/

Gloves in a Bottle seems like a really interesting product to try. The company has this disclaimer on its website: "Gloves In A Bottle, Inc. makes no claims that its product could be used in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of eczema, psoriasis, skin allergies, dermatitis, or any other disease". However, in its testimonials section, it is clearly promoting its use for people with skin allergies. It would be really interesting to hear back from other readers of the website who have tried it. While it would seem impractical to use the product all of the time, I could certainly envision myself using it to wear shoes I'm allergic to to a special event, or for athletic shoes (which I only wear for a few hours at a time).

As for the Dermasilk socks, I should probably point out that, being woven out of silk, they don't provide complete protection against allergens in shoes; however, silk is very absorbant, so they certainly provide an excellent extra layer of protection.

Re: These products can help

I hope you get some relief from these products. Do let us all know if they worked for you! I have a lot of confidence in www.allergybestbuys.co.uk because they only sell stuff that's been tested and give a lot of product information. They also sell Aalgo Seaweed Treatment which I use as a footbath for my son and this has been successful too. My other son has problems with pollen and dustmites and I've found some excellent bedding and hay fever products there too.

Re: These products can help

I just thought I'd let you know that I heard back from Finn Comfort this week, and they confirmed that PTBP-FR is not used in their shoes. So, I've added them to the PTBP-FR page on the website. Thanks again for the information, Crystal!

Re: These products can help

Thanks for the info, Jennifer! I've added the 'OutsideIn' collection to the PTBP-FR page. According to Patagonia's website, there is some glue in the footbed; however, it's removable, so you don't have to wear it. Otherwise, there is no glue in the rest of the shoe.

As for other glueless shoes, the only other ones I know of are Po-Zu (also on the PTBP-FR page). I take it from your email address that you're in Canada? If you go to http://www.po-zu.ca/ you can check out their stockists across Canada (in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton).
