Does this ever go away?
I have a teen aged boy with severe shoe allergies. It seems impossible to eliminate "shoes". And at this age, he isn't agreeable to wearing some of the shoes that may help him. Does anyone know of some baseball cleats that may be better for his feet? |

Dear Sharon, I unfortunately haven't come across any makers of baseball cleats that are okay for people with shoe allergies - but then, I haven't really looked. Although it can be discouraging and frustrating, it is worth emailing some manufacturers of baseball cleats: you might just get a helpful reply! I had to buy hiking boots a few months ago and forced myself to email about 10 different manufacturers; I ended up finding out that two of them do not use PTBP-FR (one of the glues that I am allergic to). If you do find some baseball cleats that are suitable for your son, please do email me and I will add the information to the website. As for emailing shoe manufacturers, I usually send a short email that simply asks whether they use PTBP-FR in their shoes, stating that I am interested because I am allergic to that glue; keeping it short and sweet seems to work quite well (rather than overwhelming them with information). I too have been suffering from shoe allergies for almost a year now. For the majority of the past year both of my feet were completely blistered, cracked, itchy and weeping with puss. I experienced infections on three different occassions with one visit putting me in the emergency room. After countless misdiagnosis an allergy test came back positive for being allergic to some content located in the insoles of my shoes. I am a very active person, playing basketball 4 times a week and surfing even more so for me to try and participate in these activities was painful to say the least. I would try different shoes and insoles with results varying from no better to much much worse. I think I have finally found an insole that works. A company called Mitchellace manufactures an insole that is anti-microbial, hypo-allergenic and cointains no glues, adhesives or solvents. They can be reached at, http://www.mitchellace.com/insoles.htm. They can be purchased at, www.walgreens.com , just search hypo allergenic insoles. They are $10 and will be a life saver for many of you. After 2 weeks of using them in 5 different pairs of shoes my feet have been cleared of blisters and cracks and the itching has almost gone away completely. A thick layer of skin is starting to form for the first time in years. I can be reached at rob@wisesurfboards.com if you have any questions. Good luck and I hope this helps a lot of you guys. |
