Message:   Hi Everyone,

What would you do if you suddenly had to start life all over again?

Every year, thousands of women and children in Canada wake up to this reality when they break free from their abusive partners.

Violence at the hands of a partner affects about 7% of women across the country, and over 100,000 women and children seek refuge in shelters annually. Many of them are turned away because of limited shelter space. Of the ones that find a bed, about 75% of them are escaping abuse from their spouses or common-law partners.

It takes great courage to leave and even greater courage to start over without income or resources.

For the past five years, Compound has partnered with GTA shelters that are subsisting on limited resources. Together, they’ve reached out to abused women and their children by supplying Move Out Kits to mothers who are starting out all over again. Last year, Compound made kits for 153 mothers who were moving into safe apartments.

This year, Compound is joining up with Herizon House with the goal of making this year’s Move Out Kits the most successful yet. This Ajax shelter offers relief to abused women and their children by providing a place of safety, support, and empowerment.

This is a special drive in which the general public is encouraged to get involved by helping to put these kits together. The Top 20 items included in these kits are:

- Dish drainers
- Tea towels
- Dishes
- Shower curtains
- Towels
- Wooden spoons
- Salt and pepper
shakers
- Spatulas
- Brooms
- Cutting boards
- Hampers
- Glasses
- Cutlery
- Cutlery trays
- Measuring cups
- Colanders
- Sheets
- Pillows
- Blanket

These are day-to-day items that many of us would often take for granted. But to a woman who suddenly finds herself with nothing but a new empty space, these are the bare essentials. These families might be making a clean break, but that doesn’t mean they have to do it empty-handed.

We really appreciate any help you can offer and if you would pass on this message to friends and family it makes a world of difference to these women.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me directly either through email - misha@compoundcorp.com or 416 920 5066.

Thank You

Misha Lobo
